Precious Miseries Origins

An Orphan's Beginning

.: There have been many people who have asked about the inspiration of my Precious Miseries series and character designs. I answer a lot of questions in my 'About the Artist' section, but I also want to include some insight to the characters who I have worked with before. And so this page is born!

.: Not all the Precious Miseries orphans were originally created for the Precious Miseries Manor. A few of them have been ongoing characters in my stories and more serious art.

Lil' Gothica is a fairly new design, however, I loosely based her off my Eternity V Death character. I designed Death's appearance in 2004 for a college project and liked her hair so much, I reused the style when lil' Gothica was born a year later (when I began the Precious Miseries Series). Although Death has two heads and can use semi transformational powers, lil' Gothica has not and does not. (Sorry, but no.)

Lil' Dapper

Image will be provided once I've found it.

Lil' Dapper's outfit is the only part of her character that is not exclusive to her. While trying to design possible costumes for Alannah, aka Lilith, I created a rather enjoyable outfit. I liked it so much that I felt I needed to use it someplace other than for Lilith's particular story arc.

I actually based lil' Dapper on the outfit created for Alannah.

Lilith is a character I created recently, in 2005. Her story is more light hearted and whimsical than the rest of my stories tend to be. Her adventure starts when Wizard Varial whisks her away into a fantastical land. She is forced through trails and obstacles in order to secure her passage home, however, Varial has other devious plans. Through many twist and turns, Lilith, aka Alannah, finds that her involvement in this story is more than meets the eye.

It took me many sketches to come to this character design. I named her Lilith because of the myth of Adam's first wife, the evil one before Eve. Although I do not believe that Adam had two wives, I felt the name would be appropriate.

I felt that Lilith would make an excellent addition into the Precious Miseries Manor, so I used her signature outfit and simplified her design. The lil' Lilith in the Precious Miseries Manor is very similar to the Lilith in Eternity VI.

*Wizard Varial is pictured in the last image with Alannah. (Lilith)

My name means honeybee, so over the years I have been trying to design a suitable honeybee character for myself, more specifically a Neoqueenhoneybee character. While trying to create an appropriate Neoqueenhoneybee, I have created a number of other honeybee characters as well.

Above are a small number of sketches/drawings of how my character designs progressed. The first two were part of a much larger series of different honeybee designs, while the middle three colored ones were the beginnings of "Neoqueenhoneybee" aka Fiorie. The last colored image is of BB aka Kylie, who remains my favorite bee-girl design. I liked her so much that I actually conceptualized a story for her. (Sorry, not giving out the stories.)

For lil' Honeybee, I wanted to continue with a honeybee design, but one that was not supposed to "be" me. I chose to use one of the outfits I created earlier for the Precious Miseries version of a honeybee girl. (The first image.)

Envirion has been a good friend of mine ever since high school and we both enjoy hobbies such as manga and cosplay. Envirion, envi for short, and I also like to brainstorm story concepts together, always looking for new and exciting projects to begin. Because we have been working together for so long, I know a lot of her interests, which I incorporated in the Precious Miseries version of her, lil' Envirion. Envi loves phoenixes, Super Dollfies and is in fact Korean. While in high school, she made a collaged sketch of her interests, whiich I still have. When I re-found it, I noticed a sketch of a hairstyle she made, which she titled "my dream hair." So, naturally, I took the concept of her dream hair, combined it with an altered version of a Hanbok, added a phoenix, made her a ball jointed doll and Lil' Envirion was born! (A Hanbok is a traditional Korean dress.)

The first image is of envi, alise and me dressed up as the cast from DigiCharat! This was the first time envi and I ever cosplayed! The next image is for a 'secret' project we are working on together. The third is envi's most recent cosplay as Toshiya from Dir en Grey. (It's really accurate!) The fourth and fifth images are of envi cosplaying her character, lil' Envirion. She also dressed up her dollfie, Alpha, as lil Envirion's Phoenix. (Alpha's full name means dark phoenix, by the way.) Finally, the last image is a lil' Envirion illustration I drew. Envi gave me the idea for it.

Envirion is an online alias, like Neoqueenhoneybee is my online alias. I asked envirion how she came up with her name...and she basically said that she had a reason for it, but somehow forgot it. ^^;; We think that it had something to do with the environment though. If you figure it out, we'd love to know!

I am currently working on another Precious Miseries character based off of envi, so keep an eye out. You can view her website at http://www.envirion.net/.

Lil' Lolita

Lolita Descrian Reflections at Precious Miseries Lolita Descrian Reflections at Precious Miseries Lolita Descrian Reflections at Precious Miseries Lolita Descrian Reflections at Precious Miseries

Lil' Lolita is based on a character that I am still developing. She is so new that she is mostly in sketches. The original Lolita is a very sarcastic, sharp, serious, and bitter woman. I used Lolita's design as a Precious Miseries orphan because I loved her long hair (like Glaive's). Lil' Lolita and original Lolita, aside from the hair, share nothing in common. I have grown very fond of most of my PM versions of the original characters, but I have to admit that there is only one real Lolita in my mind. (It's the original, just in case you were wondering)

When entering the Precious Miseries Manor, I felt that there would be an interesting dynamic by making lil' Lolita lil' Gothica’s older sister. Now, I am actually planning on making the original Lolita have a sister named Gothica, only that this Gothica would be different from lil' Gothica.

Like many characters before her, Lolita's design was based on a random character sketch that I really liked. Through much thought, Lolita was born. Although she is not wearing an eye-patch in these images, Lolita's signature look is with an eye-patch because she is loosing color sight in one eye.

Glaive is a character that I have been working with since 1999. She is a part of the very first 'real' story I wrote. (Um, no, you can't read it, not until its published... whenever that'll be!) There is a whole long epic that follows this character, but in a nutshell, her destiny is for destruction. Eternity I is broken up into three parts and Glaive serves as Melaena's foil in the second part and the main attraction in the third part. Some people who are less familiar with my work of Melaena and Glaive usually misinterpret their relationship. I'm not going to give anything away, but think of them as opposing forces who once shared a sisterly like bond. There is nothing impure about their relationship.

As you see, Glaive has short hair when she is a little girl, and amazingly long hair when she becomes older. I chose to portray her with long hair as a Precious Miseries character because my favorite part about the character as a visual is her hair. Also, as you see here, she may don her wings as a PM character.

Lil' Neoqueenhoneybee

Honeybee Character Concept at Precious Miseries Fiorie White Honeybee Character Concept at Precious Miseries Chibi Fiorie White Honeybee Character Concept at Precious Miseries Neoqueenhoneybee Honeybee Character Concept at Precious Miseries

As I stated before, my name means honeybee. The name Neoqueenhoneybee began by me trying to come up with an online alias. I knew that I wanted to use 'honeybee', but I didn't want to sign up for email addresses and message boards with a name like, 'honeybee229983'. I used the name 'Neoqueen Serenity' as the basis because, at the time, I was the biggest Sailor Moon manga fan.

The first image happens to be the very first attempt at drawing 'Neoqueenhoneybee'. I was pleased with my first rendition, but I didn't feel a connection with her. Two years later I created the second image. although she looked like me, she took on a personality of her own, which was not mine. However, I used her concept to create a 'chibi' version, which was inspired by Junko Mizuno's work. (3rd image) The chibi version became my signature character for a while.

Recently, I decided that I needed something a little edgier and threw pieces of different outfits together for a con, and the new Neoqueenhoneybee was born. I like the ensemble so much, I turned it into a Precious Miseries character.

For the story about StiTcheS, please visit www.stitchesncompany.com.

StiTcheS is a character I created in 2001. He originally started as an alien, but with the release of Lilo and Stitch and the booming popularity of Invader Zim, I transformed his story into something a bit more Pinocchio-ish. I think the original concept for StiTcheS was very similar to my concept for Precious Miseries. I wanted to create something cute, kind of creepy but extremely simple in design. (Precious Miseries are a bit more complex than StiTcheS.) Although StiTcheS had been with me for 5 years, he never really had a home until an entertainment company expressed an interest in hearing an animation pitch in 2005. It was then I pooled all my resources to create the StiTcheS of today; a toy brought to life. There are still many things that I would like to work out in the StiTcheS world. I see the show as being enjoyed by all ages, from children to adults. I am trying to keep the humor witty as opposed to slapstick. Currently I am working on a silly story to publish in book form. Take a look at some images from the book at the StiTcheS gallery page.
